Members may now sail on the King Lear lake as of 31/03/2021. Government guidelines must be followed , only six ( 6 )  persons on the jetty at any one time, two (2) meters apart, wearing a face mask.

KLMBC has full 24/7 access to King Lear’s Lake which is part of Watermead Country Park, near Wanlip, Leicestershire.

Our normal club sailing day is Sunday although some members frequently sail on other days as well. In the summer we hold occasional evening sailing meetings, the approaching dusk showing up lighted-up boats very effectively.

We have also held 24 hour sailing sessions to raise money for charitable purposes. Like most model boat clubs our preferred charity is the RNLI.

Come and visit us!

King Lear Model Boat Club was formed in March 2008.  We are a friendly club whose members interests cover all aspects of model boating ie. sail, steam, scale, fast electric and static, we sail on Sundays weather permitting.

Each year we host the East midlands Model Lifeboat Day plus one round of the BMPRS Offshore Powerboat Racing Championship. We also have a club open day when we invite other club’s members to sail with us. We also get invitations to other club’s open days.

At the lake we see all types of model boating activity – sail, electric (including fast electric), steam and IC engine boats.

Away from the lake members also build static model boats and we have monthly club meetings at a local social club.

The club has a stand each year at the International Model Boat Show in Warwickshire where we have won Best Stand on several occasions. In 2019 one of our members won the Gold Medal for best boat in show with his model of the boat Orca from the film Jaws.

We have also teamed up with Melton and District Model Club to allow their boating members to use the lake as they do not have a more local lake to use.
